I’m Kate Ruby Aroha

My passion for leadership and communication comes from a deep understanding of the fundamental difference this all makes to what truly matters.

Ive had clients who’ve gone on to work on projects with the United Nations, move into both senior and executive leadership positions, spearhead large scale social change work, extend their disability services, and so much more.

I’ve seen them be able to provide more for their families, while making a bigger difference. The quality of our leadership, matters.

A Bit About What Lead Me Here

I worked as a registered nurse in multiple clinical settings, before moving into nursing leadership roles, regionally and then nationally. Delivering government contracts across New Zealand, while working within a team frequently nominated for awards, and recognised nationally for their leadership and results. After completing back to back national contracts, I moved into leadership development in the private sector, and now, a senior leadership trainer with 17 years experience.

These Days

I mentor people at various levels of leadership. Whether through online programs, live leadership events, communication workshops, or private mentoring - the focus is on expanding inner capacities and becoming more effective in impacting what matters, where it matters.

My private mentoring supports those who are in more decision making roles to use their capabilities and opportunities at the highest levels.

Alongside my husband Henare, we run a two day in-person event that expands leadership capacity. This event is delivered worldwide in Europe, the Middle East, Australia & New Zealand, Asia, and the USA.

I Have a Passion for Communication

Communication is so much more than what we say.

It’s the nature and quality of our listening. It’s an extension of our commitment.

Communication has the power to reduce barriers, interrupt and redirect where things are drifting, align commitment, rally enthusiasm and drive change.

However, communication is often not done well. Linguistic power plays, unchecked intentions, accountability avoidance, misaligned goals - communication issues run havoc not only in every level of our communities, teams and organisations; but also in our relationships and homes.

Those who go through our leadership work simply become better communicators. There’s a quality to their communication which is evident. And as a result, they become the kind of person who people tend to want to collaborate with, employ, promote.

Stuff I’m proud of

In 2009 I was contracted by the NZ Ministry of Health to develop and deliver a national training program. It became a health award finalist, and referenced at national and international health conferences.

Pro bono work for a ‘Meth-Free New Zealand’

02

I know first hand the devastation that meth causes. It brought me to a place of desperation before finding the will and courage to seek help.

The pro bono work I did here years later operated on several levels, including discussions with New Zealand’s most influential decision makers to open hearts and minds for those affected by this addiction. Multiple public speaking engagements, including television, radio, and big stages. Featured articles in national magazines and a billboard campaign.

This pro bono work led to several paid job offers, including a contract with the Stellar Trust which I accepted. A key learning through this experience is that doors will open for those who kick doors down on their own accord.

Prior to my leadership work, I operated as a Clinical Nurse Educator; speaking at international health conferences; while training doctors, nurses and allied health professionals within the primary and secondary healthcare sector in New Zealand.

Since then, I’ve spent a decade leading advanced leadership experiences throughout New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia. This year we’re extending the reach of this leadership work to Europe, the Middle East and the USA.
